KARANGAHAPE GETS FESTIVE WITH FAM: KIRIHIMETE EDITION
Just in time to get into the Christmas spirit, the final FAM of the year brings a festive twist to Karangahape Road. On Saturday 6 December from 10AM – 2PM, come along for a full strip celebration combining food, art, design, markets, and music, all with the creative energy only K' Road can deliver.
Beresford Square and Karangahape pop ups will host a huge line-up of local makers and designers for the FAM market. It’s not your traditional Christmas market, it’s K’ Road’s version of Christmas: local, artistic, a bit cheeky, and full of character. Expect local favourites including Search & Destroy, Bad News, Naked Florist, Forte Green, Smoove, Saints Juice, Coven, Pads Pears, Celestial Markets and more. Plus, don’t miss the Soap Dance Hall Takeover featuring names like Rachel Mills, Common Equal and Gossamer Studio.
Adding to the market magic, the K’ Road Markets will pop up at the Rainbow Bridge outside Carmen Jones from 10AM to 3PM, packed with vintage, vinyl, kai, books, ceramics, flowers, candles, and juice, the perfect mix of creative gifts, local flavour, and summer vibes.
Down the road, Studio One Toi Tū will also host their Christmas Makers’ Market, with everything from ceramics and crafts to bespoke artworks.
For those who missed out last time, the much-loved Karangahape Card Decks are back. Originally created during the Karangahape Returns campaign, these collectible decks celebrate the people, places and quirks of K' Road. They sold out fast last time so now there’s another chance to grab your own before they disappear again.
Adding even more local love, the Houndy Helpers will run a pop-up with their friendly greyhounds for people to meet, pat, and get to know this gentle breed. The group is made up of greyhound owners and fans passionate about helping people fall in love with these dogs. They’re not an adoption agency, but a community initiative dedicated to promoting the mahi of rehoming groups and celebrating all things greyhound.
If you’re looking to eat, drink and be merry the Lebanese Grocer has a special Christmas window meal. Add in the countless eats and treats from local legends, and there’s every flavour under the K’ Road sun on offer.
For the art lovers, Beresford Square will host a Christmas art installation by Priya Sami which will run from 22 November, alongside Free Art Tours, and plenty of festive gallery happenings across the local galleries. Artspace Aotearoa also joins in the celebrations with a Christmas Party in collaboration with Silo Theatre and Coastal Signs.
It’s not K’ Road without the music. Get grooving to feel-good summer sounds from Bobby Brazuka, Leon Dahl, Martina Mak, and DJ Gel, plus a free SMALL RAVE kids activation will keep the little ones moving. From 10–1pm kids can get crafty with Christmas Eve Jingle Bell Making, and from 1–2pm they can join the Jingle Bulbs Puppet Parade, ringing bells, parading a giant community-built puppet down Karangahape Road, and led by Chorus Captain Grayson Goffe.
Head along and enjoy some family-friendly free Christmas fun, Karangahape Road style!
