H.R. THE MUSICAL #2 NOW FULLY STAFFED
As per our previous comms, the hilariously relatable new show H.R. The Musical #2 hits the Q Theatre stage from 25 November – 6 December, traversing office politics, corporate antics and HR nightmares. The team is thrilled to announce two new recruits joining for the first time, while the show’s original director clocks back in to lead the project.
Following the runaway success of H.R. The Musical, its follow up visits yet more amusing and messy realities of modern working life. Nothing is off limits, from public sector layoffs, pay equity talks, DEI initiatives, to the rise of AI and more. With music that spans a multitude of genres, including pop, rap battle, and rockabilly, this must-see show is definitely one everyone will be talking about at the water cooler, or on the Slack channels.
We all have workplace tales worth telling, and for H.R. The Musical #2 writer and producer Amy Mansfield is crowd-sourcing stories to help create the next chapter of this uproariously funny, chaotic and all-too-relevant world of office mayhem. If you’ve got a 9 to 5 anecdote, share your stories here (anonymously of course, so your boss never finds out). You might even see it woven into the show.
Artsense Productions are thrilled to announce Katie Burson, director of H.R. The Musical, is circling back around to take on the role once again. Katie is an award-winning actor, director, and theatremaker. Her work has included performances throughout Australia in the Olivier Award-nominated Room on the Broom, Bluebeard’s Castle with NZ Opera, as director of Ratbags Theatre (including their work How to Art), and working with Co Theatre Physical on works including GET OUT OF MY LETTERBOX.
"The world of H.R. The Musical is absurd, irreverent, and cathartic, speaking to the best and worst parts of the daily grind while providing essential reprieve. You don't have to work in corporate or government to recognise these characters, making this experience relatable to the worker in all of us." says Katie Burson.
Joining the team for the first time, alongside the already announced Mika Austin and Amy Mansfield, are two hires, the highly talented performers Amanda Grace Leo (梁宿娴) andJessica Robinson. Amanda is a Kiwi-Singaporean stage, screen and voice actor, tarot reader and facepainter. Her performances include ATC’s Scenes From A Yellow Peril and Basmati B*tch, HBO Max’s Our Flag Means Death and TVNZ’s Tales of Nai Nai. Jessica is a seasoned cabaret performer and has previously worked as a clown doctor. Her stage and screen credits include The Brokenwood Mysteries, The Jury Experience, Venus in Fur, and Encounters.
A fundraiser event will be held at Q Theatre’s Lounge on Monday 13 October, offering attendees a sneak peek into the show before it makes its premiere. Tickets available now via Eventbrite.
