CONSTELLATIONS JOINS MATARIKI FESTIVAL 2026 AT Q THEATRE

Silo Theatre’s production of Constellations by Nick Payne, adapted for Aotearoa and directed by Nī Dekkers-Reihana (they/them), will be presented at Q Theatre as part of the Matariki Festival 2026 programme.

This year’s theme, Matariki ki te Rangi (Matariki in the Sky), focuses on celestial knowledge, renewal and aspiration. Set beneath the same skies above Maungawhau, Constellations aligns naturally with the season’s focus on possibility, reflection and connection.

Running at Q Theatre from 2–19 July, the production offers a contemporary Aotearoa reimagining of Payne’s internationally acclaimed work, which has been staged on Broadway and in the West End. The play explores the infinite variations of a single relationship, shifting between moments of love, loss, humour and heartbreak as time, choice and chance continually reconfigure the lives of its central characters.

For performer Renaye Tamati, the production’s connection to Matariki and place feels deeply resonant: “It feels so special to have our show, Constellations, be part of the Matariki Festival here in Tāmaki because our two characters actually meet during Matariki – while also gazing up at the stars from the top of Maungawhau – magical!

Co-star Jarod Rawiri says: “We have brought the multiverse of the play, of the love story of Rowley and Maarire, to our land and sea, beneath our sky and the stars of Matariki and I cannot wait to share with Tāmaki Mākaurau at the Q Theatre. I think it will be a special piece of theatre at a special time of the year. Mānawatia a Matariki!”

Internationally praised as “funny, heartbreaking” (Evening Standard) and “cosmically brilliant” (Whatsonstage), Constellations presents a love story that unfolds across infinite possibilities — intimate, shifting and deeply human.
