THE KARANGAHAPE WAY RETURNS FOR LANEWAY EVE
The Karangahape Way returns to Karangahape Road on Wednesday 4 February, taking over the strip from 4pm to 10pm as K Road warms up for Laneway Festival and the long weekend ahead.
Arriving on Laneway Eve, the event brings K’ Road into summer mode, with fashion, food, music and nightlife spilling across the street as shops stay open late, DJs hit the footpaths, bars buzz and venues come alive. This year’s line up mixes street level music, creative workshops and social events, offering plenty of ways to ease into the evening before heading deeper into the night.
At St Kevins Arcade, SMALL RAVE brings the energy with Sidewalk Sets, a free footpath party, hosted by Fergus Waveforms, the open decks session invites anyone to bring a USB, jump on the decks and have a dance. No sign ups, no pressure, just good music and shared space.
Fashion and creativity are front and centre with the Julie’s T-Shirt Workshop, led by Julie Steven, alongside a Mini Fashion Studio by Serena Stevenson. The hands-on sessions invite people to rework and redesign old or op shopped t-shirts, turning pre-loved pieces into something new and personal.
For those keen to meet new people before Laneway, Crushes Social Club teams up with Laneway Festival to host a special edition of Friendship Speed Dating. Taking place at Crushes’ brand new Karangahape and Pitt Street store, the relaxed, platonic event features structured one on one chats, group mingling and the chance to head out together into the night.
Music continues across the strip with DJ sets throughout the evening, including at Mercury Lane where DJ Corysco and DJ Gel add to the street wide soundtrack. Find DJ K-RO Casta at Coco’s Cantina, and Tito playing at OPEN Late.
The Karangahape Way runs the length of K’Road and sets the tone for two big nights, with D8NiGHT following on Thursday 5 February, a late night mix of eight dollar cocktails, bites, and surprises as the official Laneway after party at Double Whammy Bar.
Come down early or drift through later. Eat, drink, dance, meet people and settle into summer, Karangahape Road style.
