DOG MAN: THE MUSICAL BOUNDS INTO AUCKLAND FOR THE JULY SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
These July school holidays, Auckland Live presents Dog Man: The Musical, A CDP Theatre Producers with TheaterworksUSA production, at the Bruce Mason Centre from Tuesday, 14 to Saturday, 18 July. This international touring production brings Dav Pilkey’sglobally bestselling Dog Man books to life in a high-energy show packed with original songs and comic-book inspired design.
Following the success of Auckland Live’s 2025 season of The Gruffalo, presented with CDP Theatre Producers, this latest collaboration continues a shared commitment to delivering quality theatre experiences for young audiences in Tāmaki Makaurau.
The story follows best friends George and Harold as they stage a musical about their favourite character, Dog Man – a crime-fighting hero who is part dog, part man. As Dog Man faces a series of comic villains, the show celebrates creativity, resilience and friendship.
Auckland Live Director Daniel Clarke says the production is a standout addition to the school holiday period in Auckland.
“Dog Man: The Musical is a bold, imaginative show that has captivated audiences internationally. We’re delighted to bring this high-quality production to Tāmaki Makaurau, giving families the chance to experience live theatre that is both entertaining and accessible during the school holidays.”
Running for 65-minutes, Dog Man: The Musical is suitable for children aged 6+ and family audiences seeking indoor entertainment during the July school holidays.
Dog Man: The Musical is a must-see school holiday adventure.
Auckland audiences will get an early taste of the Dog Man universe in 2026, with Pilkey appearing at the Auckland Writers Festival. Kids (and their grown-ups!) are encouraged to dress up as their favourite characters and join the Pilkey Parade around Aotea Square, which will be lead by Dog Man himself. It takes place at 10.30am on on Sunday 17 May.
Book and lyrics by Kevin Del Aguila, music by Brad Alexander and directed by Jen Wineman.
