SUZY CATO BRINGS BIG LAUGHS FOR LITTLE KIWIS TO COMEDY FEST

The NZ International Comedy Festival presents
Sounds Funny with Suzy Cato & Friends

Beloved children’s entertainer Suzy Cato ONZM is bringing the laughs to the NZ International Comedy Festival with Best Foods Mayo for the first time. Sounds Funny with Suzy Cato & Friends is a line-up of comedians, performers and delightfully silly guests doing stand-up and more - just for kids.

Hosted by Suzy herself, Sounds Funny is packed with madcap hilarity and plenty of giggles for tamariki of all ages (especially 5 and up!), and for the grown-ups who love to laugh with them.

A true national treasure, Suzy Cato has entertained generations of Kiwis as a television and radio host and author. Now, she’s gathered some of her funniest friends for a special family-friendly afternoon of comedy, in Tāmaki Makaurau on Sunday 10 May at Q Theatre and in Pōneke on Saturday 16 May at Hannah Playhouse.

After the show the fun will continue as Suzy hosts an open mic for Kid Comedians! Whether they’ve got a joke to tell, a funny story to share or just want to give it a go, this is their moment to shine. Maybe one day they’ll headline the NZ Comedy Fest.

“There is nothing better than the sound of laughter – especially if you’re the one laughing! And a laugh shared is worth its weight in butterfly kisses and unicorn hiccups. So, I can’t wait to laugh, and hiccup with tamariki in Auckland and the Capital with these inaugural Sounds Funny events.” says Suzy.

In Auckland Suzy will be joined by comedian and writer Sam Smith (The Traitors NZ), actor and comedian Florence Hartigan (Me, My Mother and Suzy Cato), children’s author and joker teller Tom E Moffatt (Barking Mad) and master puppeteer Jon Coddington (Silo Theatre’s Taniwha and ATC’s Peter Pan).

In Wellington is one of Aotearoa’s most popular children’s entertainers and musicians Chris Lam Sam, winner of the “Top Children’s Entertainer” award Zappo the Magician, the capital’s finest joy-sparking ensembles, the Wellington Carnival Band and Barry Prescott, who has spent years working behind the scenes in kids’ TV, including What Now?.

Gather your whānau and funny little ones for an afternoon of belly laughs with Suzy and friends.

The 2026 NZ International Comedy Festival with Best Foods Mayo runs from 1 – 24 May.
