TOM SAINSBURY BRINGS THE LAUGHS TO WELLINGTON REGION

Comedy icon Tom Sainsbury is set to headline three big nights of comedy showcases this August in Newtown, Lower Hutt and Masterton. Featuring line-ups of some of the region's very best comedy talent, there’ll be something for everyone to get their giggle on.

Tom Sainsbury has entertained Kiwi audiences online, on stage, and on screen. As seen on Small Town Scandal, Wellington Paranormal, 7Days, Educators, Snack Masters NZ, Taskmaster and more. When he’s not taking the mickey out of politicians on social media, Tom’s also a celebrated theatremaker, director and star of 2023 horror film Loop Track.

Kicking things off for the first show on Thursday 6 August at Moon Bar in Newtown is award-winning comedian Alayne Dick as MC. A local rising star, Alayne performed at the 2025 Comedy Gala and has been nominated for multiple Wellington Comedy Awards. Alongside Alayne is Newtown local Neil Thornton. Originally starting his comedy career in New York, since moving to NZ Neil has made a big impact on the local comedy scene, running the NZ Comedy School, and winning multiple awards.

On Friday 7 August the laughs head to Abandoned Taproom Petone in Lower Hutt with Hutt local Jerome Chandrahasen MCing. A regular performer at the NZ Comedy Festival and NZ Fringe, Jerome has MCd events across the country, and has made appearances in Wellington Paranormal and Small Town Scandal. Joining Jerome and Tom are Wellington’s own, multi-award winning Li'i Alaimoana, and 2025 Wellington Raw Comedy Quest finalist Katy Borrows.

Closing out a comedy filled weekend on Saturday 8 August at Copthorne Hotel in Masterton is MC Brendon Green. Brendon has been nominated for the Fred and Billy T Awards, and has helped write some of NZ's best loved comedy TV. Wairarapa locals Lianne Karaitiana and Jamaine Ross round out the line-up. Lianne is a previous Wellington Raw Comedy Quest finalist, and has opened for Pax Assadi on his national tour, while Jamaine, also a Fred and Billy T Award nominee, is a familiar face from his time as part of comedy trio Frickin Dangerous Bro.
